Prenatal Care Q & A
What is Prenatal Care?
Prenatal care is a preventative form of medicine for women who are pregnant and the babies they carry. Typical care includes a series of check-ups at set points in the pregnancy. During these appointments, providers check on the health of both the mother and baby. The appointments also serve as an opportunity for the provider to educate mothers on what to expect during pregnancy and for mothers to ask questions about the changes their bodies are going through.
How does Dr.Taylor provide care for pregnant women?
At Healthcare For Women Dr. Taylor has helped many women with infertility achieve fertility with pregnancy. Over the past 35 years he has provided solo obstetrical care to his patients in Oak Park and the surrounding near west suburbs of Chicago. Now he will guide you through the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, the danger period (15%) for miscarriage. He will order your prenatal labs including a pap smear, GC and Chlamydia, RPR, HIV, Hepatitis B, Rubella, Blood type and RH, Cystic Fibrosis testing and a Urine Culture. The new NIPT (non-invasive prenatal test) is the biggest change in the past 30 years. A tube of blood taken at 10 weeks from the mother can find cell free DNA from the placenta which has the identical DNA as the baby. Your baby's chromosomes can be determined in the 1st Trimester
Dr. Taylor's associates at Westlake Hospital will provide prenatal care from 12 weeks until delivery. You will see Dr. Taylor often at Westlake Hospital where he works as the OB house doctor from 7 pm to 7 am daily.

Who Should See a Healthcare Provider for Prenatal Care?
Any woman who is pregnant should schedule a visit with a healthcare provider to begin their prenatal care. Some doctors prefer to see patients earlier on in the pregnancy than others. When scheduling the first visit, patients should ask the staff at the doctor’s office when the physician prefers to schedule initial prenatal care appointments and make their appointment accordingly.
